The Great Broadway Easter Egg Hunt

Saturday, April 8th, 11am

Those of you who attended last year’s Easter Egg Hunt at the Broadway Community Center will agree that we have outgrown the space and needed to find another option for this year’s event. John C. Myers Elementary to the rescue! Mrs. Roadcap and the PTA have generously agreed not only to allow us use of the school, but to help put the event together and run it with us. As requested by parents last year, the craft stations will be more spread out (inside the school cafeteria), the age group egg hunt locations more defined (0-3 soccer field 1, 4-6 soccer field 2, 7 and up on the playground) and there will be more adult supervision of the egg hunts to ensure each child gathers a fair amount of eggs for their baskets.

If you would like to be one of these awesome volunteers, please email or fill out the linked volunteer form HERE.

We hope you join us this year for what is guaranteed to be the biggest, greatest Easter Egg hunt we’ve had!

Annual Meeting and Election

The Annual Meeting of the Broadway Hometown Partnership will be held this Wednesday, January 18th, at 7pm in the Broadway Town Council Chambers.

Anyone interested in joining the board or a committee is encouraged to attend! We have two open director spots and are always looking for non-board committee members.

Be a part of your hometown community and help us!

The objectives of the BHP are to:

• Make the town more attractive with beautification efforts; direct attention to all the physical elements on Main Street: public and private buildings, storefronts, signs, public spaces, parking, street furniture, public art, landscaping, window displays and promo>onal materials. An engaging atmosphere, created through attention to these visual elements, conveys a positive message about the community and what it has to offer.

• Promote community events to increase retail traffic, create memories for residents, and create a positive image to renew community pride.

• Create an environment conducive to business success and economic revitalization. Evaluate how to retain and expand successful businesses to provide a balanced commercial mix, and attract new businesses that can be supported by the market. Build a commercial district that responds to the needs of today’s consumers while maintaining the community’s historic character.

• BHP Directors provide insight, suggestion, opinion, support and volunteer time to help achieve these objectives. Through volunteer collaboration with partners representing a broad cross section of the community, we can incorporate a wide range of perspectives into our efforts.

Foiled again…by the weather

Sorry everyone, this Hometown Holiday event tomorrow has been cancelled due to rain expected tomorrow, and rain/sleet on our tentative rain date!! We will light up the park but there will not be an event or photos with Santa. We hope that once the rain stops you will check out the amazing decorations in the park!

We hope to see you at the Broadway Volunteer Fire Department’s parade on Sunday 12/11 at 2pm. Free cookies and photos with Santa in the Fire Station after the parade!!

2016 Hometown Holiday Events

We have two more events scheduled for this year that will be hosted by the Town of Broadway and the Broadway Hometown Partnership; plus others events in Broadway that you may be interested in:

Main Street Trick-Or-Treat!*

Broadway businesses will be handing out candy on Thursday, October 27th from 4pm-7pm. Bring the whole family and enjoy our Hometown Main Street Halloweenfest in the J. Frank Hilyard Park next to the Town Office. As always, there will be a cupcake walk, costume judging, and frighteningly good games for kids of all ages!

(This event is consistently held on the Thursday before Halloween, as some main street businesses are not open on weekends, and we don’t want to interfere with Friday night Football at BHS!)

Halloween itself is on Monday, October 31st. We get questions each year about when the residential areas will honor trick-or-treaters. This is up to each neighborhood! Most will do it on Halloween night.

John C Myers PTA Holiday Market

The John C. Myers School PTA and the Broadway Farmer’s Market Holiday Market will be on Saturday, November 12th from 9am-2pm inside the gym and cafeteria at the Elementary School.

Hometown Holiday – Lights in the Park*

The annual tradition of lighting the tree will be held on Wednesday November 30th (traditionally it is held the Wednesday after Thanksgiving). We have invited Santa and Mrs. Claus to visit with us and enjoy caroling and music from Broadway School bands, hot cocoa and cookies, and family photos with Santa.

This year we will again try to have the event at HERITAGE PARK, weather permitting. Rain/Snow location will be in the Broadway Community Center.

Annual Fireman’s Parade

The Broadway Fire Department will be hosting it’s annual Fireman’s Parade at 2pm on Sunday, December 11th. The parade will run from J. Frank Hillyard Middle School to the Broadway Volunteer Fire Department, where Santa will be taking photos with the kids!

If you would like to volunteer to help with these events, please contact us!

If you are hosting, or know of a community event in Broadway, please email to be considered for inclusion in on our website. You can also invite us to the event on Facebook: @BroadwayHometownPartnership

To be sure you don’t miss a post about upcoming events, follow this blog, and follow us on Facebook!

*Organized and hosted by the Town of Broadway in collaboration and partnership with the Broadway Hometown Partnership and local businesses.

#LOVE and Rain Dates

We’ve been rained out again! Can’t catch a break, but that’s why we already had a rain date set – July 9th! We hope you can still make it – and that the weather dries up!

A glimpse of what it takes to postpone and event!

The LOVE artwork is STILL coming this weekend – so break out your cameras, and ponchos/umbrellas, and take some great photos! Share on social media with #LOVEva and @Virginiaisforlovers. We hope to get the letters back on July 9th as well so you will have two opportunities to see them!

June 11th: 9th Annual Gary E. Post Kids Fishing Day

Kids Fishing Day has been postponed to the THIRD rain date, June 11. The water in the creek has been too high to add fish – the nets would float away and the fish would be gone by morning!

More details and updates can be found on the Facebook Event page.

Kids 12 and under fish for free-register on site.
Bring your own pole and bait.
Free lunch for participants.
Call Mary Post for more info 540-896-7757

Join us on June 4th, 2016 for the Fourth Annual Red, White and Brew Festival! More details to be announced later – for now we are seeking volunteers to help in two-hour shifts at all stations. Interested in being a Hometown Helper? Sign up below!

Join us for Broadway’s Annual Great Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 19th at 11am! There will be an egg hunt for three age groups, faceprinting, crafts and snacks for all. And of course, Peter Cottontail will pay us a visit!
